B4by is a Firefox OS application that shifts our understanding of our relationships with our phones by simulating the behavior of a crying infant. We often treat our phones with the same proximity and undivided attention we give to babies; B4by makes that relationship literal.
The app uses the device's accelerometer, light sensor, and proximity sensor. The "baby" wakes up and cries if left alone for too long. To calm it down and put it back to sleep, the user must pick the phone up upright and hold it close to their chest.
This project highlights our dependency on technology and the physical rituals we perform to satisfy our digital devices.
